Who I Am
Problem solver and advocate.
In my day job, I am a scientist working in coalitions to support evidence-based transportation policy. I like to dig in on the details of an issue...it's where I thrive. And I want to put that skill to work for my community, connecting my neighbors with the resources needed to support life in DC. I have the time and resources to devote to being available to constituents, in addition to the desire to make an impact. I have attended ANC meetings over the past few years and have been looking for opportunities to be involved, including participating in ANC 4B’s Vision Zero committee. Now I want to build on that experience to be a committed local advocate for my neighborhood.
Let me introduce myself.
I came to DC as a transplant, but like any good growing plant, I am building my roots and thriving. Takoma DC is my home. I've lived here for over 8 years and love the neighborhood, not just for what it offers but because of the people that live here.
My love for my adopted hometown has driven me to be more invested in its future. I started attending meetings of the ANC to understand what issues are important to my neighbors. And seeing the extra effort put forth by individual commissioners volunteering their time for their community inspired me to want to do more.
Our most recent commissioner has been absent on the job for over a year. I'm running for ANC 4B01 because I want to be present for my community. There is so much going on in our lives touched by city government every day, and given how the federal government treats both our neighbors and neighborhoods, now more than ever we need folks like myself to commit to making our city better.
These are the values I stand for.
Reliability
If I say I'm going to do something, I'm going to do it. I'm not looking to shine you on--I'm looking to get things done. And I'll be my own hardest critic when it comes to results.
Curiosity
If I don't understand something, I'm not going to stop until I do. I promise to ask more questions of both our leaders and of you, to make sure our community is being represented.
Honesty
In this age of disinformation, it's important that you get the straight talk, no b.s. We can't move forward together if we don't start from the same facts on the ground.
Balance
I know when to fight and when to conserve that energy for another day. I will be dogged, but in the long run, because we all need to survive the present to build the future together.
I will be accountable to you.
Accountability
Your ANC commissioner should be reachable, responsive, and transparent. I'll hold regular office hours and send out regular newsletters to make sure my neighbors are aware of what's going on.
Community resource
The most important role an ANC can play is to get to know how to get things done inside the DC government. I promise to help connect my community to who can best support your needs.
Forward-looking
You should not be surprised by what's going on in your community. I will work to make sure folks are aware of what's going on with plenty of time to comment and/or prepare.
